In addition to his political stances, this volume also includes some of his poetry as well as lessons which are referred to as "Message to the People, The Course of African Philosophy".

A fascinating book. Only a brief comment is made about Marcus Garvey in most high school history books ending with a statement that he went to prison for mail fraud. In this book he answers the charges against him and reveals some of the opposition he faced when he first introduced his plan for African Americans to organize and enter the arena of world trade.
His plans may have seemed grandiose, but were feasible. And in todays world of ethereal financial schemes actually seems a rather safe inv A fascinating book.
And in todays world of ethereal financial schemes actually seems a rather safe investment. That he actually got some of them off the ground and running was remarkable in the early twentieth century. His downfall according to him is the result of his naive, blind trust in anyone who seemed to take a sincere interest in his plans.
Background checks were not a tool he used. Handshakes are not enforcible under the law. He claims to have been libeled, embezzeled, and set up by nefarious politicians and competing business interests. A really good read into the mind of a man who was inspiring at times and downright scary with some of his ideas on penalties for incompetence in government death to the leader, and his wife for those who betray the public trust.

MARCUS M. GARVEY: Lessons For African People
In this Twitterized world, where 21st Century humans relish in the fleetingness of characters I pondered on how and why, humans, the highest form of creation, are reduced to such drastic limitations. What caused most of us to become provincial, limited, condensed, robotized, yes, totally removed and indifferent from natural human instincts such as curiosity, knowledge, and learning. The United States government has derailed the largest Pan-African mass-movement, then and now, totaling millions, deported, in , the leader, Marcus Garvey. The crux of his message to Africans in the Diaspora is to never stop learning and moreover, to discern that your real education occurs when you embark on self-education. He began his lectures with the refrain,.
Never forget that intelligence rules the world and ignorance carries the burden. Therefore, remove yourself as far as possible from ignorance and seek as far as possible to be intelligent. We must give up the silly idea of folding our hands and waiting on God to do everything for us. If God had intended for that, then he would not have given us a mind. Whatever you want in life, you must make up your mind to do it for yourself.
This play illustrates his cause, as well as the controversy it inspired.
Marcus Mosiah Garvey Sr. Ideologically a black nationalist and Pan-Africanist , his ideas came to be known as Garveyism. Garvey was born to a moderately prosperous Afro-Jamaican family in Saint Ann's Bay , Jamaica , and apprenticed into the print trade as a teenager.
