English PDF. A traumatic brain injury interferes with the way the brain normally works. When nerve cells in the brain are damaged, they can no longer send information to each other in the normal way. This causes changes in the person's behavior and abilities.

Lobes of the brain

The Frontal Lobes are located in the front of the brain. They are very large and have many functions. The frontal lobes are considered to be our emotional control centre. They play a central role in our personality and how we act. They are also involved in attention skills and controlling movement. The frontal lobes manage skills known as Executive Functions.

A brain is an organ that serves as the center of the nervous system in all vertebrate and most invertebrate animals. It is located in the head , usually close to the sensory organs for senses such as vision. It is the most complex organ in a vertebrate's body. In a human, the cerebral cortex contains approximately 14—16 billion neurons , [1] and the estimated number of neurons in the cerebellum is 55—70 billion. These neurons typically communicate with one another by means of long fibers called axons , which carry trains of signal pulses called action potentials to distant parts of the brain or body targeting specific recipient cells.

The cerebrum or telencephalon is the largest part of the brain containing the cerebral cortex of the two cerebral hemispheres , as well as several subcortical structures, including the hippocampus , basal ganglia , and olfactory bulb. In the human brain , the cerebrum is the uppermost region of the central nervous system. The cerebrum develops prenatally from the forebrain prosencephalon. In mammals, the dorsal telencephalon, or pallium , develops into the cerebral cortex , and the ventral telencephalon, or subpallium , becomes the basal ganglia. The cerebrum is also divided into approximately symmetric left and right cerebral hemispheres.

Human Brain: Facts, Functions & Anatomy

The brain is an amazing three-pound organ that controls all functions of the body, interprets information from the outside world, and embodies the essence of the mind and soul. Intelligence, creativity, emotion, and memory are a few of the many things governed by the brain. Protected within the skull, the brain is composed of the cerebrum, cerebellum, and brainstem. The brain receives information through our five senses: sight, smell, touch, taste, and hearing - often many at one time. It assembles the messages in a way that has meaning for us, and can store that information in our memory.

The human brain is the command center for the human nervous system. It receives signals from the body's sensory organs and outputs information to the muscles. The human brain has the same basic structure as other mammal brains but is larger in relation to body size than any other brains. The largest part of the human brain is the cerebrum, which is divided into two hemispheres, according to the Mayfield Clinic. Underneath lies the brainstem, and behind that sits the cerebellum. The outermost layer of the cerebrum is the cerebral cortex, which consists of four lobes: the frontal, parietal, temporal and occipital.

Although we now know that most brain functions rely on many different regions across the entire brain working in conjunction, it is still true that each lobe carries out the bulk of certain functions. In humans, the lobes of the brain are divided by a number of bumps and grooves. These are known as gyri bumps and sulci groves or fissures. The folding of the brain, and the resulting gyri and sulci, increases its surface area and enables more cerebral cortex matter to fit inside the skull. This is why in frontotemporal dementia , personality changes are often the first signs of the disease. In , Gage was using a tamping iron to pack in gunpowder for blasting a tunnel through rock.

The neuron activity is dramatically different in the two genders. The frontal and the temporal areas of the brain cortex are larger in volume in women.

The Parietal lobes are responsible for Spatial functions. • The left Parietal lobe is responsible for spatial language (on, over, on top of, before). • The right Parietal.
