Comparison of Grid Computing vs. Cluster Computing Grid computing is focused on the ability to support computation across administrative domains sets it apart from traditional computer clusters or traditional distributed computing. Grids offer a way of using the information technology resources optimally inside an organization. In short, it involves virtualizing computing resources.

Comparison between Cloud Computing, Grid Computing, Cluster Computing and Virtualization

A computer cluster is a set of loosely or tightly connected computers that work together so that, in many aspects, they can be viewed as a single system. Unlike grid computers , computer clusters have each node set to perform the same task, controlled and scheduled by software. The components of a cluster are usually connected to each other through fast local area networks , with each node computer used as a server running its own instance of an operating system. Clusters are usually deployed to improve performance and availability over that of a single computer, while typically being much more cost-effective than single computers of comparable speed or availability. Computer clusters emerged as a result of convergence of a number of computing trends including the availability of low-cost microprocessors, high-speed networks, and software for high-performance distributed computing.

Comparison between Cloud Computing, Grid Computing, Cluster Computing and Virtualization

Show all documents It is an interesting topic among various information technology based industries, business intelligence and the users. Various computer resources like hardware and software are collected into resource pool that can be assessed by the users through internet. However, its functioning is based on models of cluster , distributed and grid computing. In this paper author presents a direct comparison between Cluster Computing , Grid Computing and Cloud Computing including various aspects related to these computing. Cluster includes computers connected over a LAN on the other hand cloud and grids are geographically distributed on a larger scale. A Comparison between Cluster, Grid, and Cloud Computing Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, on-demand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources e.

A Comparative Analysis: Grid, Cluster and Cloud Computing

Grid computing and cloud computing are conceptually similar that can be easily confused. The concepts are quite similar and both share the same vision of providing services to the users through sharing resources among a large pool of users. Both are based on network technology and are capable of multitasking meaning users can access a single or multiple application instances to perform different tasks. In grid computing, resources are distributed over grids, whereas in cloud computing, resources are managed centrally.

Kaur , Anjandeep Kaur Rai Published Cloud computing is really changing the way of computation. Many computer resources such as hardware and software are collected into the resource pool which can be assessed by the users via the internet through web browsers or light weight desktops or mobile devices.

Cloud computing and grid computing almost have the same vision of providing services to the users through sharing capabilities and resources. Although the terms are differentiated based on application focus, architecture, resource usage patterns, number of services, interoperability, business models etcetera. Cloud computing banish the need of buying the hardware and software which requires complex configuration and costly maintenance for building and deploying applications instead it delivers it as a service over the internet. On the other hand, in grid computing, a cluster of computers work together to solve a massive problem by splitting it into several small units which are distributed over computers part of a grid.

Cluster, Grid and Cloud Computing
